Italian Andrea Dovizioso has stormed to the top of the MotoGP standings after taking a win at the British Grand Prix overnight.

The Ducati rider took the chequered flag at Silverstone ahead of Yamaha's Maverick Vinales and veteran Valentino Rossi.

Yamaha rider Rossi had led for the majority of the race but started to lose time and fell behind on lap 18 of 20.

Dovizioso worked his way up the pack after starting from sixth on the grid while is nearest title rival Marc Marquez retired with a mechanical failure.


Brit Cal Crutchlow finished fourth in his home event

Dovizioso has a nine-point lead in the championship from Marquez while Vinales is a further four points adift.
