Palmerston North duplex badly damaged by fire

Fire has badly damaged two flats in Palmerston North.

The Palmerston North Fire Service is investigating the fire, which broke out in a duplex on Ihle St shorly before 10am.

Fire Service area commander Rodger Calder said five fire engines fought the fire.

"One of the flats was fully involved in fire, but all people had made it out safely," he said.

"The gentleman next door suffers from some medical issues so we had an ambulance look after him."

Calder said the blaze was mainly fought from outside the home, because tiles on the roof made it dangerous to be inside.
