Manawatū two-vehicle crash: Police confirm second person dead

A second person has died after a two-vehicle crash in Manawatū.

Emergency services responded to the crash on State Highway 54 Cheltenham-Hunterville Rd at Beaconsfield, Manawatū, about 4.45pm yesterday.

Police confirmed shortly before 9pm one person had died.

This morning police said a second person had died and another was in hospital in a serious condition.

The Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination and the cause is being investigated, police said.

The road was closed for several hours and reopened about 9.20pm.
