Feilding Promotion's Raewyn Loader said a booking in Wanganui fell through so Feilding became an option.
"We got wind of the opportunity for a show in Feilding and were more than keen to make that happen."
Dave was treated to a sit down lunch with his band, Feilding Promotions and local media. The three-course meal made the most of local cuisine, with Creative Catering putting it all together.
There was an opportunity for fans to buy the new CD and ask for an autograph.
Dina Blake was waiting in line with a personalised photo album for the singer.
"I met Dave on July 7, 1988. He played in Palmerston North at the Albert Motor Lodge and I did the photos."
She made copies of the pictures for Dave to keep.
"I've also written a few songs inspired by him - he's awesome."
Dave said the welcome had "blown him away" and had reminded him of the community spirit that thrives in smaller towns.
Travelling with him was Jesse Sheehan.
The young musician is now based in London and returned only for the tour.
Dave's latest album is his first in eight years and has been described by the musician as a "record of hope".
