The first 2019 Palmerston North Globe Theatre matinee concert is Sunday.
The monthly series that has now established a strong and loyal audience, following draws the performers for its concerts mostly from the Manawatū and Whanganui region.
The Sunday concert features the Rooibos Piano Quartet. Its members grew up in Palmerston North and gained their initial music training here, and are now living, studying and working elsewhere.
The piano quartet features violin, viola, cello and piano.
David Neild attended Freyberg High School, and completed a BMus in piano at the New Zealand School of Music. He went on to study law and moved to Blenheim where he practised family and criminal law for five years.
Nathan Pinkney plays violin in this concert and hails from an Ashhurst musical family.
He completed an electrician apprenticeship before heading to Auckland University in 2017 to study violin.
He is working towards a professional chamber music career in violin.
Violist Sylvia Neild completed her Bachelor of Music last year at Waikato University.
Cellist Joanna Dann is at the beginning of her third year of study Waikato University.
The major work in the programme is the first of two pieces that Gabriel Fauré wrote for the piano quartet combination, and is notable for its impassioned quality.
