There comes a time in almost everyone's life they will find themselves totally lost in the rabbit warren-like store that is Ikea. Or at the very least you will have said the name of the store, given its prominence.
Chances are you have said it confidently and without even givingit a second thought. After all, it's such an easy word to say...right?
That's until a recent Jimmy Kimmel interview with football player Zlatan Ibrahimović of LA Galaxy. Ibrahimović is from Sweden - so we can probably trust what he says in this regard - and he was talking about filling his new home with furniture from Ikea. But it's how he said it that stopped Kimmel in his tracks.
Americans, like Australians and Kiwis, seem to say the I and E vowels when saying Ikea. Aussies say eye-KEY-ah. But the real pronunciation of the retailer's name is ee-KAY-uh.
