Hungry customers are lining up for a taste of what has been labelled the “world’s best hot cross bun”.
From the frantically ringing till, along the length of the counter, out the door and down the street, snakes a queue of people, enticed by the sweet, spicy scent of Auckland restaurant Ima Cuisine's "best hot cross buns in the world".
Following the Herald's interview with Yael Shochat, the mastermindbehind the coveted Easter treat, demand has gone through the roof as Kiwis wait to get their hands on the sugar free, vanilla bean custard topped delights.

The eatery's phone line has been ringing off the hook and their automatic email reply reads "buns are flying out the door and we can't keep up."
Are Ima Cusine's hot cross buns the best in the world?
Hype slowly built after the buns were labelled the best in the world by Jetstar's in-flight magazine, and former street press publication Paperboy lauded them the best Easter buns in Auckland.
While the Fort St institution originally sold over 500 hot cross buns a day in the lead up to Easter, today they look to have sold well over 1000.
Two teams of hard-working bakers are also preparing to work through the night to make over 2500 buns for Thursday, with orders still flying in thick and fast.

When the Herald spoke to Shochat yesterday she predicited Thursday would be crazy for her staff, "This year we will make 2500 for Thursday and it's amazing, you come here on Thursday morning and it's like a sea of hot cross buns."
By the looks of Ima's Instagram story, you'll be lucky to even get in the door as they struggle to keep up with the demand.
