Tennis champion Serena Williams has revealed she and close friend Meghan Markle have recently been "relying on each other" a lot, as both have found themselves under intense media scrutiny of late.
During an interview with The Sunday Project in Australia, 36-year-old Williams revealed she even got in touch withthe Duchess of Sussex following her now infamous US Open outburst.
"We were actually just texting each other this morning," Williams told Lisa Wilkinson during the interview, filmed just three days after Williams was served multiple fines for her on-court behaviour.
"We have known each other for a long time, but we really kind of are relying on each other quite a lot recently," she shared.
"To have such a monumental moment in England, nonetheless of all the places, I felt like we were literally watching history. I feel like in a few years we are going to look back at that moment and it's going to be so historic. It's going to be something that people never forget.
"The whole service was really wonderful, and most of all I just wanted to see my friend be happy. And I think that's what happened."
According to Metro, Meghan and Serena first met at Super Bowl in 2010 in Miami and have remained close ever since.
Serena also recently shared on Instagram how proud she was of the Duchess following the release of her latest charitable venture, Together: Our Community Cookbook.
"I used to call you Meghan (and I still do) but dear Duchess of Sussex your first project 'Together' a cookbook bringing women of all cultures together. I could not be more excited about it and proud of you."
