Tim Allen again, this time as Critical Jim, a hitman who loves the movies. He pulls a gun on Christian Slater and tells the Hollywood hard-man that he'll kill him in 90 minutes, when the ransom turns up. Could Slater tell Jim a good story
to pass the time? Yes, says Slater, here it is: you've got the wrong guy. Critical Jim thinks Slater is Cletis Tout, a man the Mob wants dead. But Slater is Trevor Finch, who borrowed Cletis' identity after escaping from prison.
And Finch goes on to tell about meeting a jewel thief named Micah (Richard Dreyfuss) in prison and learning about a diamond stash. Micah and Finch escape together and go on the trail of the missing diamonds; Micah's daughter, Tess; and her carrier pigeons, with Critical Jim tossing in an appropriate movie quote for every occasion. Witty, especially for film geeks, but not much more.
