Their father spoke with his mouth filled with food. "I'll drop you boys off first, then Skye."
"Aw, that means we have to wait in the cold for ages," moaned Jeffrey, the younger of the two boys.
"Dead with it," was the reply.
Skye smirked. She was the baby and
Dad always looked after her. And everyone knew it. Dad, trying to appear gruff, said to Skye, "Get your stuff. We leave in ten minutes."
Skye finished her breakfast quickly, dressed warmly and was sitting in the van waiting for the boys long before they had even put on their shoes. She smiled to herself as they bustled into their seats. Although by no means perfect, she knew she was lucky with her family: her mum and dad got on well, they had a nice house (and she had a room to herself, finally), her brothers were okay if it wasn't morning, and she pretty much got what she wanted - so long as she behaved herself.
