The Auckland Pride Festival, 2016
Now entering its fourth year, the Auckland Pride Festival is firmly established as New Zealand's biggest social and cultural celebration for the rainbow community (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, takatapui, intersex, queer) and their friends and families. The 2016 Auckland Pride Festival will feature some 50 individual events - including literature, communities, film, theatre, dance, cabaret, comedy, sport, youth, debate, visual arts, music and family, until February 21.
Museum opening
Celebrations and ceremonies mark Waitangi Day, while tomorrow is the opening of the new Museum of Waitangi at the Treaty Grounds after a $14 million redevelopment. Standout exhibits include a pounamu touchstone, Te Whariki kia mohio ai tatou ki a tatou, which means Tapestry of Understanding, gifted by Ngai Tahu, and Charles Fredrick Goldie's portrait of Tamati Waka Nene, 1934.
Tomorrow, 9am-6pm. Day pass includes guided tour and cultural performance - adults $40, NZ residents $20, children (up to 18) free.
Bring the family
Join Ngati Whatua Orakei at the Waitangi Day Festival 2016, a celebration commemorating the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi on February 6, 1840. A family event, held at the magnificent Bastion Point - Takaparawhau - the festival features live acts, food, art and craft stalls, and the giant Manu Aute kites, pictured.

Hayman Park Festival
Top acts Savage, Three Houses Down, Sid Diamond, Dei Hamo and Ranea headline the Hayman Park festival. The park opens at 9am with a powhiri at 9.30. Music, good food and fun.

Tower lights
The Sky Tower will glow red and gold as SkyCity Auckland comes alive with lion dancing, acrobatic performances, monkey-making balloon artists, lanterns and more to mark Chinese New Year with 16 days of celebration. Festivities begin on the eve of Chinese New Year, with free performances accompanied by firecrackers to ward off evil spirits and encourage a successful year ahead. On Monday, from 6.30pm-8:30pm guests can head to the plaza and have their names written in Chinese calligraphy to display in their house for good luck.
Sky Tower lights up from tomorrow until February 22.
Chinese New Year Exhibition
In honour of the Chinese Year of the Monkey, artists and celebrities, including designer Trelise Cooper (her Jack the Monkey is pictured), have created a range of soulful and mischievous monkeys that will soon be on the loose in Parnell. More than 30 life-sized monkey art pieces will be on display in galleries and select retailers in Parnell.
