This is the moving moment a baby smiles in delight as he sees his mother clearly for the first time in his young life.

Suffering from a rare form of albinism, Baby Leopold's condition affects the colour of his hair and skin and his ability to see properly.

The youngster, who lives with his parents near Seattle, Washington, is filmed as glasses are pulled down over his head, allowing him to see for the first time.

Initially confused by the new spectacles, it doesn't take long for him to set his sights on his mother, who says "Hi Honey" as the pair lock eyes.

His immediate reaction is a huge smile for his mum, while others in the room can be heard gasping in delight.

A male voice can be heard saying: "Oh, he's smiling."

Leopold's mother adjusts the glasses to sit better on her baby's face then stares into his eyes. Looking down for a moment, presumably allowing his vision to adjust, the video ends with Leopold refocusing on his mother, giggling as she continues to talk to him.

According to the UK's NHS, Leopold's condition, oculocutaneous albinism, means he is missing pigmentation from his irises and could suffer a number of eye conditions in the future, including impaired vision and sensitivity to light.
