A good waiter puts diners at ease - and if customers are too comfortable, they can even forget their server is there.
That means waiting staff can often overhear their diners' conversations - and over the years, many have heard some very juicy tales.
Waiters have taken to target="_blank">Reddit to share the most outrageous things they've overheard their diners say - and some may shock you.
More than 33,000 people have upvoted the Reddit thread, which asks waiting staff to share stories of the weirdest things they've ever heard customers say.
More than 21,000 people have responded with their tales - and they will make you much more likely to wait to have your private conversations when you're in the comfort and safety of your own home.
As well as the most outrageous things customers have ever said, servers took the opportunity to also share the strangest stories from their career as a waiter.
One waiter overheard a women revealing she had slept with her own half brother, while another witnessed a couple telling their son they were getting a divorce in public.
One woman's friend had to point out the obvious.
