... and I'm an alcoholic, he tells us. He's been sober for less than a year and is about to fall in love with a social worker, Sarah (Louise Goodall). Joe (Peter Mullan) is an out-of-worker who lives in
a rough Glasgow neighbourhood, where he manages the worst soccer team in town. His best player is Liam (David McKay), a kid who did time for drugs. Liam's wife, Sabine (Anne-Marie Kennedy) is a user and they owe the local drug lord, McGowan, 2000 pounds. McGowan offers Joe a deal: if he makes two trips up north and drives back cars containing drugs, the debt will be wiped.
Romance, tragedy, black humour and an ending that will knock you right off-balance in director Ken Loach's Cannes-winning movie. Oh, and for those who don't speak Broad Billy Connolly, it's subtitled!
