As lightweight as candy floss, Three To Tango is a romantic comedy with a few amusing moments all based around a drawn-out, overworked case of mistaken sexual orientation.
Perry,
best known as Chandler from Friends, is an aspiring young architect named Oscar. He and his gay business partner Peter (Platt) are striving to land the biggest contract of their careers, a $90 million cultural centre.
But the tender must be decided by slimy tycoon Charles (McDermott of The Practice) who mistakenly believes Oscar is also gay. So Charles uses the contract to force Oscar to spy on his mistress Amy (Campbell).
As their friendship develops, Oscar finds himself falling for Amy but he must kept his heterosexuality hidden to safeguard his chances of winning the contract.
Three To Tango does not rise much above a television sitcom, so Perry is not required to extend himself. He is undeniably charming and has appeal but this could be Friends - just with different friends.
Campbell, all smiles and charisma, is well cast as Amy and McDermott is appropriately slick and sleazy.
This is not a character driven comedy - they all lack depth - rather the humour is all slapstick, overheard conversations, innuendo and double entendre. Funny for some - most of the other moviegoers laughed throughout - but inconsistent.
