This Weekend: Scoping out Silo Park

Silo Park has twilight markets and movie nights.

One of our favourite things about sunny summer weekends in Auckland is the start of the Silo Park Friday evenings - the perfect way to wind down the working week and relish our City of Sails.

Find a spot at the outdoor cinema

We love that the Silo Cinema Season is back for another year, screening all those classic films that we'd been meaning to re-watch. You could pack a picnic, but we like heading down after work for a drink and a bite to eat. We're pros now at scouring the best spot, wrangling a bean bag (get in quick!) and people watching. We plan to get all sentimental at tonight's Tim Burton stop-motion fantasy Nightmare Before Christmas. Next Friday, we'll be finding small sorts so we can sing along for The Muppet Christmas Carol.

To market to market

The new Silo Markets have been extended to Thursday as well as Friday (5pm until late) and leisurely afternoons on Saturdays and Sunday (noon until 6pm). Serving up a cool mix of art, vintage clothing and contemporary art by the likes of Smoove Reworked Vintage, Goodbye Horses, Mactisserie, Sneaky Studios, KabanyaStationery Corner, Brazen Decor, Trigger Happy and many more.

Eating around there

We can't think til we've eaten. We go the old-fashioned route and pick up the best ever fish'n'chips from the Auckland Fish Market on the way to Silo. But we should really give summer staples a go - Paella Pan, Langos, Mr. Dix Miller's Coffee, Stumpy's Pizza, Toro Churro, The Cool Store, MexiKai, The Lucky Taco, The Beverage Boy, Colo Tako, Heavenly Pies and Real Good Brownies.
