This weekend Mother Nature has decided to start acting like winter - proper winter - before spring starts at the end of the month. With a weekend forecast of rain and cooler temperatures this weekend we're heading indoors for a spot of culture.

Having a bangin' time at Stomp:

The opening this week had the crowds in an uproar - banging and stomping and clapping for more. It's amazing what a bunch of people can do with the universal language of rhythm - plus plenty of comedy, high energy dance, a massive set, and the most unlikely instruments: brooms, plastic bags, Zippo lighters, shopping trolleys. No surface will be safe after we've seen this.

Meet the mid-Century at Auckland Art Gallery

The Gallery is our favourite buzzy place on a Sunday: from the heart-stoppingly lovely kauri canopies at the entrance, the up-close views of Albert Park and the impeccable blend of modern architecture meets Parisian folly. We love our mid-Century design, so have been going back and back to examine the collection put together by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) of the best of furniture, architecture, fashion - and surfboards. On Sunday we're heading in to see artist Billy Apple share his Dorothy Thorpe for Crown Lynn pieces, while Home editor Jeremy Hansen points out the connections between Californian architecture and our own. Then we'll stop by for some California food - LA hot dogs or the Napa Valley tasting plate.

Commune with the artists

We'd like to think we had a spare few hundred (or thousand) sitting about so we could go berserk shopping at the Art Fair, but we're very content to wander the halls to admire the best of the best galleries and invited artists in the country. We'll pop along to some of the seminars and just fill our soul with the energy and creativity of our favourite artists.

We've had a sneak peek at the cooly refurbished Shed 10 and we love how well the designers have married yesterday's industrial heritage (rough wood floors, still with their markings, steel beams, old windows) with the future (solar panels, sliding glass walls, sleek wood staircases). It smells so good we want to eat it. Fortunately, instead, we can eat the best of the city's food - from Italy to France, China and the street trucks of LA. Add in cool street artists, DJs and buskers, and we might just be there all day.
