A baby killed in a gas mix-up at a Sydney hospital have not yet received an apology or the compensation that was offered to them.
John Ghanem was mistakenly given nitrous oxide instead of oxygen a year ago - just after he was born - after the gas lines inthe neonatal theatre at Bankstown Hospital weren't installed correctly.
9 News revealed on Monday night that John's parents, Sonya and Youssef Ghanem, were still waiting.
"We feel we are being neglected by the government. Like they don't care," the Ghanem family told 9 News in a statement.
They were assured by former premier Mike Baird compensation would come quickly without the need for legal action.
The lawyers acting for the government have demanded a number of reports from the family, including tax returns, medical records and the work history of the couple's 19-year-old daughter Chantelle.
"We feel like we have to justify the claim. It's making it worse this dragging on, considering the promises of the former Minister at the time," the Ghanems said in their statement.
Stephen Mainstone, the lawyer representing the Ghanem family, said the way it's being handled is causing more stress, news.com.au reported.
