The special extended edition arrives in stores this week with 43 extra minutes of movies and two additional discs of extras. The first two discs contain the 223-minute movie accompanied by four commentaries by Peter Jackson and more than 30 members of the cast and production team.

Discs 3 and 4 contain production documentaries, design and photo galleries, and DVD-ROM content. There is also an exclusive Collector's Gift Set featuring the four-disc extended edition, in an elaborate box with a hand-painted Gollum, bonus DVD with content from Weta Workshop.
