Jon Favreau specialises in what you might call off-Hollywood productions, and this is another one: the rambling story of a man named John Person (Favreau) and some of the more bizarre events to take place in an American desert since Gram Parsons' hearse took the
wrong turning at Joshua Tree.
John is sent to deliver a blue suitcase to the Cowboy and from there everything goes wrong. "Everything" will involve the afore mentioned cowboy, an Indian named Bob, and other strange people who will be played by a fair crowd of names including Daryl Hannah, Rachael Leigh Cook, Adam Beach and Kelsey Grammer.
The scenery and the filming are magnificent; the actors appear to have had a jolly good time; but at the end of it, you're left with the uncomfortable memory of try-hard disasters. Anyone else seen Zabriskie Point?
