By VINCE FORD
Tu and Tammy Tawhiti, Connor McDonald and Vinny all turned up for my birthday party. I wasn't looking forward to the party; it was the end of holidays, I hadn't heard from Dessy since the car competition, and Mum wouldn't tell me what she'd got me for my
birthday.
"Hiya," I said, trying to sound enthusiastic. Tu was carrying a faded old plastic chair. "What's that for?" I asked.
"Chair throwing," said Tu.
"Eh?"
Tu grinned. "It's kind of like discus throwing, except you use a chair. You've got to try and throw it as far as you can. Good party game."
"Oh," I said.
Connor had half a dozen hockey sticks from school. He was tall and lanky with ginger hair, freckles and a stutter.
