Mitch (Robert De Niro) is a tough-guy cop. Trey (Eddie Murphy) is also a cop, but he's learned more about police procedure from TV than the police academy. Chase Renzi (Rene Russo) is a TV producer who gets excited when she sees film
of Mitch getting angry with a TV cameraman and shooting his gear.
The network sues and Mitch is offered a deal: star with Trey in a reality show and the network will drop the case. From there it's downhill all the way, even for a movie that sets out to spoof buddy-cop movies. Particularly disappointing to see De Niro sleepwalking through it, to the point of being out-energised by William Shatner.
