A favourite after-work treat is to sit in an intimate bar, drinking a good red and nibbling on tasty tapas. It's such a relaxed and convivial way to catch up with friends. So why not do the same at home? With these easy-to-make small plates you can create an impressive party vibe that encourages sharing and conversation.
For the sticky ribs I like to buy large ribs, and then cut them down the centre to make nice meaty morsels. Ask your butcher to do this for you. I also use kecap manis, a sweet soy which can be found at most Asian shops. If unavailable, simply use an extra tablespoon of soy. These are good cooked in the oven and in warmer weather you can do them on the barbecue.
Whenever I see goat's cheese on the menu, I'm in. It is one of my absolute favourites, especially with a drizzle of honey. These are easy to make, and with an oozy soft centre and a touch of good quality honey, they are deliciously rich. Two or three per person will be plenty.
Spanish omelettes - traditionally made with only five ingredients - are a great standby. The key is to cook the potatoes and onion very slowly, without browning. If you don't have a mini pan to make them in, make a large omelette and cut into bite-sized pieces. The olive and caper topping provides an extra burst of flavour.

For fresh flavours and texture try the Asian duck salad with a little chilli, cucumber and duck served in a cos leaf. Add a little hoisin dressing for a true taste sensation. The small portions are easy to eat and look pretty on a plate. If you don't have duck, chicken can be used instead.
