Sex toys to protest gun laws

Students are planning to protest new gun licence laws allowing concealed guns on Texas campuses by carrying dildos to class.

From August 2016, the "campus carry" law signed in June will mean licence holders in Texas will be able to have concealed handguns on campuses.

A Facebook event "Campus (dildo) Carry," aka "#CocksNotGlocks," has been created in protest.

The event creator and University of Texas graduate Jessica Jin asks supporters to attach a dildo to their school bag on August 1 to highlight how unreasonable it seems that students could be revoked for possession of a sex toy on campus over a gun.

Jin posted: "The State of Texas has decided that it is not at all obnoxious to allow deadly concealed weapons in classrooms, however it does have strict rules about free sexual expression, to protect your innocence.

"You would receive a citation for taking a dildo to class before you would get in trouble for taking a gun to class."

Over 4,000 people have signed on for the rally but the page has also become the site of abuse aimed at Jin. Comments such as:

"Can I ask you something Jessica? Not trying to troll, this is an honest hypothetical question. If a criminal with nothing to lose found you and held a gun to your head and said he was going to end your life right then and there, and all you had on was a dildo and some school books, would you wish you had a gun hidden on you to protect yourself?"

Jin explained the concept to USA Today College:

"I need this proliferation of dildos to offer people a visual representation of what it would be like if we all carried guns.

"It should look ridiculous to you. That is the point. This is America. If guns and bloodshed don't wake people up, a public celebration of sexuality may just do the trick."
