Matt Perry and Liz Hurley? Sounds like a screen pairing made in women's mag heaven, but this lightweight romantic comedy proves you do need a skerrick of talent too.
Joe Tyler (Perry) is a slow-moving lawyer's clerk. His boss, Ray (Cedric the Entertainer), wants
more productivity in presenting legal documents, like he gets from Joe's co-worker, Tony (Vincent Pastore).
Ray gives Joe a big job: serve Sara Moore (Hurley) with divorce papers. Tony tips her off that Joe's a-coming round so she avoids him. Ray sends Tony but Joe pulls a fast one on Tony to give him time to get the papers to Sara.
When Joe and Sara meet, they come up with Plan B: he explains that she'll get a better settlement if she beats her rich husband, Gordon (Bruce Campbell), to file her papers. Sara tells Joe that if he'll destroy the papers and set up Gordon, she'll pay him $1 million.
So Sara and Joe chase Gordon, while Tony and hs cronies chase after them and (oh, you guessed) Joe and Sara fall for each other.
"Tacky and overdone" was one comment, but this column is not that cruel. "Idiotic and crass" will do just as well.
DVD features: movie (99min); commentary with director Reginald Hudlin; A Look Inside the Process documentary; out-takes; deleted scenes; extended/alternate scenes; trailer.
