Samantha the sex robot can now turn down sex if she's not in the mood

Samantha, the famous sex robot, can now turn down sex if she's not in the mood.

The robot's creator Dr Sergi Santos has upgraded Samantha to have the ability to refuse sex if she feels bored or disrespected. The change came after Santos' wife suggested the upgrade.

The upgrade is called "dummy mode" and Samantha can enter it at any point, if she's not in the mood for intercourse.

According to its creator, sensors under Samantha's skin detect the robot being touched in a disrespectful way and can cause her to refuse sex.

Samantha demonstrated her ability to say "no" to sex during a recent presentation held at the Life Science Centre in Newcastle, UK.

The sexbot creator believes the upgrade will make users treat robot women - and real women - with more respect.

He also hopes it'll raise more awareness around the issue of consent (even though owners can still have sex with the robot when it's shut down).

Samantha is currently under production and expected to hit the mass market at some point, with a price tag of NZ$7000.

She also has "family", "romantic" and "sex" modes, as well as an "extra naughty" level.
