The threat of acute morning sickness making you bed-ridden for weeks would be enough to put anyone off reproducing a second time.
But, according to Gary Goldsmith, the Duchess of Cambridge's famously over sharing uncle, the royal couple are already thinking of expanding their family before baby numbertwo has even arrived.
"I don't think they'll stop at two," Goldsmith told Hello!, no doubt to the delight of the press team at Kensington Palace.
"So if it isn't a girl this time around, people shouldn't be too disappointed.
"I'm sure there'll be a girl in the mix at some point. As long as the baby is healthy, that's the most important thing."
If the spare heir is a girl, however, experts predict a potential surge of £80 million (over NZ$158 million) in profits from merchandise and tourism.
And if keen betters correctly wager that the princess will also be called Alice, they could be set to earn themselves a cool £500K (NZ$990,000) from the bookmakers.
The royal baby is due to arrive in the next week. The Duchess will give birth to her second child on the private Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital.
