Rio week big on bikinis (+photos)

Rio de Janeiro's spring/summer fashion week has focused on light fabrics and sober colours in what promises to be a retro season in Brazil.

Despite Brazil's lusty and liberal reputation in fashion, where tiny swimsuits take over its tropical beaches, it seems like bikinis are getting bigger by the season.

Swimwear brand Salinas went back in time for a retro look, with super short pleated skirts over bikinis covered in cartoons of Rio in the 1920s and 30s.

Designer Jacqueline di Biase said she sought inspiration in Rio de Janeiro's lively street carnival celebrations.
