Retail therapy: In Lady Gaga news ...

Lady Gaga and her stylist Nicola Formichetti have collaborated on a short film, directed by Ruth Hogben, to celebrate the success of the singer's time as a M.A.C Viva Glam spokesperson and her campaign, which has helped to raise $68 million for the M.A.C Aids Fund over the past two years. The pair also released a one-of-a-kind dress in the film, titled The Masterpiece, which incorporated submitted images from Gaga's fans in the design. Watch the film here.

Digital fashion

Being digital is a must for a modern fashion brand, but who are the most "digitally competent"? According to New York University think tank Luxury Lab's new Digital IQ report, that would be Burberry, Kate Spade, Coach, Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana. They ranked them according to websites, digital marketing, social media, mobile presence, e-commerce and more, with Burberry considered the most technologically advanced.

Crossing the Tasman

Salasai is relocating to Perth. Designer Kirsha Whitcher is making the move from her Hawkes Bay base to Australia in December with her family and design assistant Harriet Will. Whitcher says the move signifies the next chapter for Salasai, with strong growth within the Australian market - a Salasai top recently featured on the cover of Frankie, and Salasai has just exclusively launched a behind-the-scenes NZ Fashion Week video with Russh. Despite the move, Whitcher explains, "Salasai is first and foremost a New Zealand label, and is something that I am proud to maintain moving forward."

World's art

The fashion and art worlds continue their love-in, with an installation from Gregor Kregar in the World Man High St shop. Featuring Kregar's abstract sculptural works growing from the walls, including Nuclear Clouds and Sputnik Fossils, the installation includes 18 porcelain reflective structures. The store will also see Matthew 12:12 Cup 2011 on display, a project that features a group of porcelain sheep in national rugby jerseys, a reference to the tournament that dare not speak its name (in Viva, at least). As World explained in its press release about the exhibition, "Is Kregar lambasting the lambs of New Zealand or paying them homage? Are we celebrating the Rugby World Cup or denigrating its supporters as a mindless herd?" Connected by art

Women's Wear Daily has confirmed that next year's exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute will showcase the work of Miuccia Prada and the late Elsa Schiaparelli, two Italian designers synonymous with bringing together the fashion and art worlds. Australian film director Baz Luhrmann will be creative consultant for the exhibition, and the Met Gala (considered to be fashion's Oscars) on May 7 will be co-chaired by Miuccia Prada, Anna Wintour and actress Carey Mulligan. Said to be featuring about 80 designs, from Schiaparelli's work in the late 1920s to early 1950s, and Prada's work from the 1980s to today, the exhibition will be presented as an imaginary conversation between the two; contrasting opinions on various themes like art, politics, women and creativity.

This little piggy

The Muppets' genius marketing continues in the lead-up to the opening of the new film later this year. In addition to the collaboration with hip US store Opening Ceremony, there are also a few other projects in the pipeline - Miss Piggy will supposedly be the face of M.A.C come November, and will appear as a judge on Project Runway All Stars. There is also a 12-piece collection of nail polish, in collaboration with OPI - think "Animal-istic", which is a wild bright red; "Wocka Wocka!", a deep berry; "Fresh Frog of Bel Air", green glitter, "Gone Gonzo!", aqua-blue glitter and "Rainbow Connection", "the rainbow glitter of your dreams". The limited edition range will be available in November from Farmers, Professional Salons, Life Pharmacies, Kirkcaldie & Stains Nail Spa, Smith & Caughey's, Ballantynes and Arthur Barnette. $24.90 each.
