The hilarious photo, which shows Evans looking despondent in the dress and a pair of Christmas socks, quickly went viral.
It has been 'liked' more than 100,000 times and shared more than 32,000 times on the social network.
Hundreds of delighted followers responded, with many pointing out how well the dress suited Evans.
One posted: "You look so good and it is definitely your colour." Another agreed: "I'm pretty sure they sent you the right order as that dress looks amazing."
The official Asos Twitter account responded to arrange a swap for the correct items.
It tweeted: "Ayy Mr Dylan, you are definitely rocking that dress! Please send over your 9 digit order number and your ASOS registered email address in a DM and we can organise a cheeky swap to happen."
The post was met with outrage from Evans' followers, who argued he should be able to keep the dress and receive the items he had ordered.
One posted: "I'm sorry, but you should just let him keep that because it's flawless on him and send him the correct order.
"I mean, just think about the exposure this complete rocking of a red dress has already brought your brand."
