The haircut of Friends favourite Rachel has been voted the most influential of all time, reports Ananova.com.

The bouncy, layered cut was sported by Jennifer Aniston's character in the long-running NBC sitcom and became a favourite with American hairdressers in the mid-90s.

Rachel later replaced it with a longer, sleeker style that Aniston still sports.

Farrah Fawcett came in second, followed by Princess Diana, Mary Quant and Marilyn Monroe in the poll of 2000 women conducted by appliance giant Morphy Richards.

Cartoon character Marge Simpson's shocking blue hairdo was 14th.
