JJ (Frank Nasso), a boy who finds himself unloved and unwanted in a foster home, sets out to find the loving mother he is sure must be out there somewhere. He sets up camp in New York's Central Park (because it is the last
place he spent time with his mother), where he meets a group of people who are even needier than himself.
They include a social worker who has decided that JJ is the child she needs to save; a foster mother who longs to be rid of JJ but goes to extreme lengths to get him back; the Protector of Central Park, who takes JJ under his wing; and a couple with a mysterious secret who also want to save the lad.
That's the story, and some first-division names signed up for the project, such as Kathleen Turner, Harvey Keitel and Danny Aiello, but they float in and out of the story as though they've dropped in from a different movie.
Oh well, at least Memento is out next week.
