Prince Harry reveals hopes for a baby girl with Meghan Markle

Prince Harry has revealed he hopes to have a baby girl with his wife the Duchess of Sussex.

The royal, 34, who is expecting his first child next Spring, shared his wish after a spectator congratulated him on the pregnancy at an Invictus Games event in Sydney on Sunday.

In a candid moment captured on camera, a bystander was heard shouting: "Congratulations, I hope it's a girl", to which Harry responded: "So do I!"

Comments from the father-to-be this week suggest the couple do not yet know the gender of their unborn baby, the DailyMail reports.

Speaking at a reception on Tuesday, the royal said: "We genuinely couldn't think of a better place to announce the upcoming baby... be it a boy or girl."

However his passing remark today hints that the prince might be hoping to welcome a daughter.

The Sussexes announced their baby news shortly after touching down in Sydney on Monday ahead of their 16-day tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga.

The couple are squeezing in more than 70 events during their whirlwind visit but it was revealed today that Meghan will miss some to allow herself time to rest.

The happy news of the couple's pregnancy was announced hours after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex touched down in Sydney for their first major international tour since their wedding in May.

A Kensington Palace said: "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019.

"Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public."

Last week ITV's Lorraine enlisted the help of Phoenix, dubbed a 'psychic' cat to predict the gender of the baby, which is due in Spring 2019.

The cat predicted that the baby would be a girl after the feline chose to eat food from a pink bowl instead of a blue one in the light-hearted segment.
