Every year, The Hits presenters Polly and Grant find a deserving Kiwi family and make their Christmas dreams come true - by breaking and entering their home.
This year, they went to Candice's house, where she lives with her two sons, Reilly (16) and Oscar (2).
Candice was nominated byher sister Nikki, who wrote to Polly and Grant to share her sister's harrowing story.
"After weeks in Waikato, confined to a bed and wheelchair, Candice was transferred to Tauranga hospital where the real work began. Over 4 months she achieved small goals, like being wheeled outside in her chair to sit in the sun, then as her strength grew transferring herself from bed to chair," Nikki wrote.
Nine months on, Candice can now walk with a stick but her recovery is still slow. She has become involved in the set-up of a young stroke survivors group, visiting fellow stroke patients to offer her support.
The Hits team chose Candice out of hundreds of nominees for their annual Break and Enter Christmas mission, which saw them put up a tree and decorate the entire house, while also stocking the cupboards with every Christmas treat imaginable and filling the house with presents for the whole family.
