For many Oscars red carpet walkers, the time spent preparing for the awards ceremony can be longer than their time at the event.

Deciding on what to wear is an arduous task and beyond picking the dress, makeup and hair become crucial elements to complete a star's look.

And as diverse as the gowns, here are our favourite faces from last night's red carpet.

1. Lorde

The kiwi muso kept her makeup reasonably natural, taming her wild locks and adding a dewy nude lip and a pastel blue to her lids.

A dark lip paired with a dark eye doesn't work for everyone. But by choosing slightly softer autumnal tones, Lily killed it with a plum lip and 1920s finger waves.
