Prince William and Duchess Kate are known for their hands-on parenting style and the prince has recently shared an example of how he tries - and sometimes fails - to help with the children.

On a trip to Blackpool earlier this month, Prince William was reportedly chatting to another dad who confessed he is useless at doing his daughter's hair.

The prince admitted he shared that same lack of skill.

"Never try to do a ponytail," he told the fellow dad, according to People magazine. "Nightmare!"

The duchess, who was nearby, turned to her husband and asked if he'd ever tried to do a plait. "It's the weaving ... really hard," she said.

"I can do [Princess Charlotte's] ponytail, but that's about it as I don't have enough hair to practise on," he replied, displaying his sense of humour.
