Despite a hectic schedule that requires her to jet around the world, Elle Macpherson is rarely downbeat, jet lagged or low in energy.

The supermodel confessed she has never been a "duvet diver", and has several simple and failsafe solutions that have served her well whenever she feels run down.

From walking in seawater to beat bloating and tone her waist to cooking to combat a low mood, here we look at Elle's top seven tricks to beating low energy.

1. Energy dip one: Lack of sleep

While Elle admitted she is not one to lounge around in bed until late in the day, the 54-year-old also said she is "pretty vigilant about getting seven hours a night".

"I go to bed as early as 9.30pm or 10pm," she wrote in her monthly Get The Gloss column, adding that she also puts aside specific time to wind down and "reflect on the day" before bed.

She said that she often feels better after an evening yoga class, or by making sure she gets enough sunshine in the day.

Spending time with her sons is also good for the mother-of-two before bed.

2. Energy dip two: Low mood

"If I am feeling low, I take a healthy and holistic approach to harnessing energy," Elle explained.

This means she will either do vinyasa flow yoga or power yoga. Alternatively, she loves a bit of swimming, paddle boarding or water skiing - anything as long as it's in the fresh air.

An instant mood changer, Elle added, is something "nurturing" like cooking or gardening.

Elle also confessed to be a bit of a "Words with Friends" app fan, and she will often combat feeling blue by playing Scrabble.

3. Energy dip three: The 4pm sugar crash

The 4pm sugar crash is real for men and women around the world.

But if you want to tackle it like Elle Macpherson, then it's important that you strip your diet of processed foods and meat, and eat a balanced diet of plants and clean protein.

This will mean you are automatically less likely to get fatigued come mid afternoon.

"My fridge is always stocked with plenty of organic, locally-sourced seasonal vegetables and proteins, nut milks, snacks such as hummus and tahini, fruit and sprouts that are nutrient-rich," she said.

Elle will often soak these nuts and seeds in her dehydrator to make them especially crunchy, while retaining the health benefits.

If she simply can't get past mid afternoon without a snack, the supermodel will have a chocolate mousse with avocado and hemp seeds.

4. Energy dip four: Jet lag

Jet lag is inevitable when you travel full-time. But Elle has a simple trick to minimise feelings of tiredness and sluggishness.

The supermodel said she will take two teaspoons of Super Elixir before getting onto a plane, another two teaspoons diluted in a litre of water during the flight and two more teaspoons when she lands.

Elle also said she rarely eats on board, to give her digestion a rest.

5. Energy dip five: Heavy legs

Heavy legs are a common side effect of exhaustion.

And Elle said if her legs ever feel heavy, she'll do "waterfall yoga pose" - which is lying on her back with her legs raised and blocks beneath her sacrum, or lie with her legs up against the wall for 15 minutes.

The 54-year-old also swears by the benefits of Epsom salts baths.

"If I'm by the sea, walking thigh deep in water is the best way for me to lighten legs," she said.

6. Energy dip six: Bloating

For Elle, good health starts with a healthy digestive system.

But a diet rich in pre and probiotics is key to reducing the effects of bloating, as is walking in seawater - which she said tones the legs and waist.

Elle will walk is thigh-high deep or knee-deep water for 40 minutes to an hour, and she said this also helps as a diuretic.

7. Energy dip seven: Hormones

Hormones affect all women, and when Elle is feeling down or stressed, she said she will add "a single vial of WelleCo Women's Libido and Hormone Support Super Booster to water".
