Seventies chic reigns supreme on the catwalk and the streets.

Seventies chic reigns supreme on the catwalk and the streets.

You know a runway trend has made its mark when you see it translated with even greater flair on the street. A new breed of fashion editors, bloggers and influential style makers has seen street style come into its own.

So what exactly is street style? Some people seem born with an innate sense of style, and have the knack of putting things together effortlessly to make a look "work". Starting with a trend, these style mavens put their own stamp on it and make it their own.

If you're after some major fashion inspo, check out the looks seen "off" the runway to see what's really trending.

The 70s look continues to reign supreme. Strut your stuff and head downtown in Steele's 70s-inspired ensemble. The shaggy Lattica vest is a great layering piece, perfectly suited to our mercurial climate. Team the flares with a high shoe for a true 70s swagger.

Channel your inner rock 'n' roll boho muse with Stolen Girlfriends Club Cloud Surfer dress. This off-the-shoulder mini dress highlights a fab decolletage, and feminine ruffles are toughened up with an edgy raw hem.

Nothing says "cool" more than a jumpsuit. You'll be hitting the streets in style with Juliette Hogan's silk Dresden jumpsuit. For extra style kudos, drape the Nixon jacket casually over the top.

Hot days call for cool, cotton dresses. Embrace the heat with Shakuhachi's Sundance Laddering Kaftan dress. Bring out your secret gyspy diva and add some bohemian accessories for deluxe hippy appeal.

When in doubt, denim is always your best friend. Make an impact with Karen Walker's fun Valeri Halter Top and Blazar Pants. The high-voltage, pop art-inspired print instantly adds colour to a grey, concrete jungle.

Look cool in the city with Hideseekers Frontier shirtdress, a versatile classic. For maximum street vibe, team with suede shorts and a leather visor.

Be a risk-taker and mix it up with Sylvester's checkered shirt and pinstriped Preppy trouser and floral print Forever Tee. Borrowing from the boys never looked so good.
