THE LIBRARY, Onehunga
We love what they've done with this old heritage building, built in 1912. There are two indoor dining areas with high ceilings and chandeliers - one fairly standard, the other a cosy "reading lounge", complete with shelves of books and games - as well as outdoor seating. Terrific menu and great coffee.
THE PAH HOMESTEAD, Hillsborough
There are beautiful views inside and out here - indoors you can view some of the art on show at the TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre, which shares this space with the cafe, while outdoors the old homestead's terrace overlooks the grand Monte Cecilia Park. Enjoy Devonshire tea on the terrace or a relaxed brunch.
MINK, 99 Parnell Rd, Parnell
Set in the historic Exchange Hotel, this stylish cafe has an impressive menu (including a great kids' offerings) and lovely outdoor seating. The staff are friendly and the coffee is top-notch.
OCCIDENTAL BELGIAN BEER CAFE, Vulcan Lane, Auckland Central
One of the few places in Auckland you'll find Belgian waffles on the brunch menu. Yum. Set in the former Occidental Hotel, built in 1870, the cafe is a great spot to take a break from shopping in the city and to people-watch in the popular Vulcan Lane.
