There's a new craze sweeping the internet and it involves nothing other than condoms.
Condoms filled with water, that is.
Teens - and some adults - have taken to social media to post videos of themselves having swollen water-filled condoms dropped on their heads, purportedly to promote safe sex.
The craze is in the same vein as planking in 2011, the ice bucket challenge in 2014 and the "Frozen chook" earlier this year.
It comes with its own hashtag (#condomchallenge) and an official Twitter account dedicated to the trend already has about 40,000 followers.
In countless videos posted online, the tog-clad participants sit in a bath or outside while a friend drops a hefty condom filled with water on their heads.
The condom does not always immediately break, enlarging the face of the person involved, until it pops and splashes water in their face.
Most of the participants still have a swimming cap-like sheen of latex around their crown and face when the ordeal is over.
It has prompted safety concerns, with some writing posts on Facebook about how wise it is to cover your nose and mouth with water-filled rubber.
Participants can be seen gasping for breath through their laughter during the challenge and a number can be heard saying they couldn't breathe.
A safety message has since been posted on the Condom Challenge Twitter page stating that people needed to be careful.
"The #CondomChallenge was made to help raise safe-sex awareness, because if a condom can fit around your head, it can fit below your waist.
"Please practise the condom challenge safely. Be prepared to pop the condom after no more than 7 seconds. Be safe and remember to practise safe sex."
It is understood the craze kicked off after a video of the challenge was posted on Twitter by two brothers in November. It has since been liked 13,000 times and retweeted almost 10,000 times.
Students have found the workshops 'really uplifting and positive' so far.
