Muslim woman Noor Tagouri in hijab to appear in Playboy

Playboy magazine is to publish photographs of a Muslim woman fully clothed and wearing a hijab.

Noor Tagouri, 22, a Muslim-American journalist of Libyan descent, will feature in next month's issue of the men's publication.

Miss Tagouri will be shown wearing a leather biker jacket, black jeans, and with her head covered.

Her portrait was taken as she sat on a wooden bench in front of a bullet-riddled American flag.

It is part of Playboy's "Renegade" series which focuses on people who have "risked it all, even their lives, to do what they love, showing us what can be accomplished if we break the rules".

In the accompanying interview Miss Tagouri describes her attempts to become the first anchor to wear a headscarf on commercial US television.

Earlier this year Playboy announced it was ceasing to publish nude photographs of women.

Following a backlash about her photographs Miss Tagouri told Playboy: "I don't read or pay attention to any of it. It's just negative energy and unhealthy."

She added: "I believe in rebellion as a form of honesty. To be our most authentic self is to rebellious. I know what it's like to have the narrative of our community be skewed and exploited in the media."

Playboy magazine said: "Tagouri forces us to ask ourselves why we have such a hard time wrapping our minds around a young woman who consciously covers her head and won't take no for an answer."
