Mum's fury over daughter's ball dress disaster

A mother has posted pictures of her 18-year-old daughter in her school ball gown that look more like a plucked chicken than a dress.

Malexa Maeweather was looking forward to her prom, until the ultimate dress fail the night before the event.

Dee Lewis, from New York, wrote on Facebook the dressmaker had attempted to charge them almost $400 for the gown.

"So [the designer] called my daughter the night before prom to pick up her dress," Lewis said.

"R u serious ... Was I wrong for wanting my deposit back?"

Maeweather saw a picture of a gown on Instagram and recruited a local designer to help her replicate it. But it went horribly wrong.

Lewis told Yahoo Maeweather cried when she saw the white, sheer, floor-length gown.

The designer had promised Maeweather she would make her something nice with material she already owned and she wanted to "play around with the design".

With hours to spare Maeweather went to prom, with help from her mum, and she looked stunning.
