On Wednesday, the Duke, 41, broke down as he gave evidence in the High Court in London, during which he claimed that journalists working for Associated Newspapers Limited had “made my wife’s life an absolute misery”
While the £38m ($87.05m) trial continues this week in his absence, he and the Duchess spent the weekend championing a wholly different cause.
The Girl Scouts documentary, directed by Alysa Nahmias, follows “four tenacious girls (who) strive to be a top-selling ‘Cookie Queen’, navigating a US$800m ($1.3b) business in which childhood and ambition collide”.
The Duke and Duchess executive-produced the film through Archewell Productions, their media company.
Speaking at the screening in the Eccles Theatre about the lessons she learned from being part of the American youth organisation, she said: “It really embeds such great values from the get-go.”
“I was a Girl Scout, my mom was a troop leader, and I think the value of friendship, of being dedicated to a goal, as you can see that in Cookie Queens, it’s so reflective of how these girls stick with something that’s important to them and don’t give up.
“And self-belief is an integral value that comes with being a Girl Scout.”
The Duchess has previously shared photographs of herself as a child selling cookies in her uniform, released to coincide with the launch of her As Ever shortbread butter cookies.
Asked if her daughter, Princess Lilibet, 4, would become a Girl Scout, the Duchess said: “I think we’ll continue to explore whatever feels right.
“Alysa [the director] is a mom of a daughter, and I think for both of us working on this project it’s been incredibly special as parents, as mothers, to be able to see something our girls will be able to enjoy and watch as well.”
She added that her favourite Girl Scout cookies are Thin Mints, while her husband’s are shortbread cookies, but he also “loves the Samoas”.
The Girl Scouts of the United States of America, founded in 1912 to empower young girls, has about two million members.
One of the programmes is fundraising through selling Girl Scout cookies, which is both charitable and aims to teach the girls about entrepreneurship early in their lives.
