Marisa Ventura (Jennifer Lopez) is a solo mum raising her young son, Ty (Tyler Garcia Posey), in New York.
She works as a maid at a flash hotel in Manhattan. Head butler Lionel (Bob Hoskins) is thinking about promoting her to Head Of Housekeeping ... until Marisa
tries on a $2000 Chanel suit belonging to a VIP, Caroline Lane (Natasha Richardson), and is caught by the Republican candidate, Chris Marshall (Ralph Fiennes — yep, all the big names are here, Stanley Tucci will pop up too).
Of course, he thinks she is Lane and takes her for a walk in Central Park, where they are snapped by paparazzi stalking the man who would be senator.
There is a twist which is too ridiculous to mention here, but it means that no one recognises our heroine in the funny papers and so long as she hides every time Marshall walks around the hotel he won't notice her in her maid's outfit. (Odd set-up: considering some recent presidents' predilections, a maid's outfit might have helped smooth the path of ... oh, let's not go there.)
Will the candidate still love Marisa when he discovers that she is an impostor? No prizes for picking "yes." And even less chance of a prize for figuring out that the two will get their happily-ever-after ending thanks to her kid.
