"I just looked out onto the next door neighbour's roof and there she was," he says.
"She was just sitting there like nothing had happened."
Grant says he hasn't figured out how the tiny pup got up on the roof, but thinks she might have got stuck inside somehow, and then ventured out a window onto the roof after hearing the family's whistles.
However, getting Polly down was no problem for 6-foot tall Grant, who stood on the fence between the properties and "just reached up" to get her.
He says the neighbours had "a good laugh" after hearing about Polly's adventure.
"I don't think they found any poo inside the house so it's fine," he says, laughing.
Although this is the first time little Polly has escaped, Grant says she's likely to make a habit of it.
"It's the first time and dare I say it it's going to be the first time of many now that she's come of age."
