King and Queen brave the cold to attend church service

The King and Queen have braved icy January temperatures to attend a church service on the Sandringham estate.

The couple were pictured on Sunday morning arriving at St Mary Magdalene Church, where they were warmly greeted by Reverend Canon Paul Williams.

The Queen wrapped up against the chill in a favourite faux fur hat and a long cream coat, accessorised with a red scarf and fur-trimmed leather gloves.

The couple were last seen together on Christmas Day, when they led the royal family on the short walk to church.

They will continue their break from public duties before returning to work later this month.

The first member of the family back at the coalface will be the Princess Royal, who is due to attend the Oxford Farming Conference next Thursday.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh also have a smattering of engagements scheduled throughout the month.

The King was last seen attending the Sandringham church service last Sunday, when he was joined by the Edinburghs, Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, and Peter Phillips and his fiancee, Harriet Sperling, as they continued their festive celebrations in Norfolk.
