Of the whole family, Gran was the best at finding yoghurt. She could tell which flavours were in which bags just by looking at them. She moved expertly between the rubbish bags, cutting perfect doors and calling, "Strawberry!Raspberry! Apricot!" Kiri and Tama always ate first, Mum, Dad and Gran throwing the discarded yoghurt pots to them before eating what was left.
When their stomachs were full the keas played games. The dump was always full of wonderful toys: old cans, wheels, pieces of plastic, bits of rubber. Things to throw in the air to catch, things that rolled and could be chased along the ground, things that banged and clattered when they were dropped ... And best of all - things that could be pulled apart. Throwing, catching, rolling, chasing, banging and clattering were good fun, but the keas knew there was nothing better than pulling something apart.
