Hip-hop artist King Kapisi was the big winner at the annual b-net New Zealand Music Awards at the Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna tonight.
The Wellington-raised Samoan, whose real name is Bill Urale, took home six awards, with his gold-selling album 'Savage Thoughts' voted Best Album, Best Hip Hop Release and
Best Cover Art.
The single from the album, 'Screems From Da Old Plantation', won awards for Best Song and Best Music Video. The award for Best Live Act completed the rapper's haul.
Other winners at the publicly-decided awards included Kapisi's friend Che Fu , who won Best Vocalist and Dimmer's Shayne Carter who won Most Outstanding Musician.
Carter's band won Best Rock Release for the album 'I Believe You Are A Star'.
Drum'n'bass duo Concord Dawn also picked up two awards, their 'Disturbance' album was voted Best Independent Album and Best Electronic Release, while Auckland band Good Shirt won the award for Best New Act.
