Bringing the 70s comic to life, Josie and the Pussycats are a girl band recruited while crossing the street, by a promoter who wants to use their songs as a carrier for subliminal messages.
There are three: Rachael Leigh Cook as Josie McCoy, lead
singer; Tara Reid as Melody Valentine, bubble-brained blonde; Rosario Dawson as Valerie Brown. With its Spice Girl/Britney look- and sound-alikes and its plot about how teens are susceptible to implanted marketing messages through music and celebrity endorsement, there was plenty of opportunity for a halfway decent satire here. No such luck.
