Wonderful movie made even more poignant by the recent suicide of the star, 79-year-old Richard Farnsworth, when he could not bear his terminal cancer.
It's based on the true story of Alvin Straight (Farnsworth), a 73-year-old man fromLaurens, Iowa, who learns that his brother is dying and wants to see him one last time.
His eyes are too bad to allow him to drive. He lives with his daughter Rose (Sissy Spacek), who is somewhat retarded and no good behind the wheel.
Alvin looks at his ride-on lawnmower and sees how he can drive the 500km to Mt Zion, Wisconsin.
Along the way we will learn a lot about Alvin and other real people.
Expertly and sympathetically made by David Lynch, who usually deals in the bizarre (Wild At Heart, Twin Peaks).
